Services
Here you will find the different types of therapy I offer. Please note that I offer a complimentary 10-minute conversation to see if I am the right fit for you and your needs.
We will discuss what treatment or combination of treatments will be best for your goals. Treatment options may change with your changing situation and needs. If after our conversation, you choose to book your first appointment, and you are seeking services for yourself, please complete this intake form and informed consent form before your initial session. If you are seeking services for your child, I will meet with the caregivers during the first session and go through the intake forms together.

Please see notes regarding insurance and privacy, along with the necessary forms, at the bottom of this page.

CBT

Fee - $140/hour

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.  CBT is a structured, problem-focused and goal-oriented form of therapy. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps you identify problematic thinking, challenge and change those thoughts/beliefs. CBT can be very effective if you find that your emotional and behavioural reactions are causing you difficulties in your everyday life.

Individual Therapy

Fee - $140/hour

Sometimes what we need most is someone to talk to and reflect thoughts and emotions back to us. Individual therapy is like having your own personal cheerleader, who validates your emotions and listens without judgment in a safe and comfortable environment.

Art Psychotherapy

Fee - $140/hour

“Art therapy combines the creative process and psychotherapy, facilitating self-exploration and understanding. Using imagery, colour, and shape as part of this creative therapeutic process, thoughts and feelings can be expressed that would otherwise be difficult to articulate” (CATA)

Art therapy is for everyone, young or old. Did you know it’s actually really important for adults to engage in some sort of “play” on a regular basis? Adults who engage in play/art-making are able to release endorphins, which allow adults to manage stress more effectively. Creating art also improves brain functioning, which helps us feel more energetic. Engaging in the art-making process, “flexes” our creativity “muscle”, which helps us to be better and more creative problem solvers in our everyday life.

Creating art in the therapeutic process, allows for moments of reflection, finding deeper meaning and understanding for your own life challenges. Art therapy also allows for somatic experiences, which consolidate our body and mind, to release blocked thoughts, memories and experiences. Art therapy is fun, engaging, messy and relaxing. No art experience is necessary. Art therapy is about the healing that comes from the process of creating, not the outcome itself.

EMDR Therapy

Fee - $140/hour

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This is “an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders” (emdria.org).

There are several important differences with EMDR, that makes it so special and different from conventional talk therapy. With EDMR, we do not talk in detail about the distressing issue, rather we have a sentence or word that encompasses that experience. The foundation of EMDR is that our brain is able to resolve and recover from traumatic memories. This means that you do not need to have full access to your memories in order to resolve issues from an event that may be too traumatic or distressing to remember.

What To Expect

during your first session and moving forward

Reaching out for support can be scary and can cause anxiety in itself! During our first appointment, I will explain in-detail what you can expect for your first and subsequent appointments.  My goal is to make this process as comfortable as possible as you begin your healing journey. If we are meeting virtually, I will start by giving you a virtual tour of my office; so you will be able to see that we are in a private and safe environment. If we meet in person, I will invite you to sit down and make yourself comfortable. We will start by getting to know each other - I may ask what your interests are, or what you like to do in your down time. You are also free to ask questions or wonder out loud. Therapy is a comfortable space where you are free to be yourself.

We will talk about your goals, what life will look like once you hit those goals, and what structure of therapy will work for you. We will also talk about the informed consent; risks and benefits of therapy and limitations of confidentiality.  Therapy is most effective when it is consistent and frequent - therefore, I recommend that we meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to start.  In our subsequent sessions, I will begin with a check-in (maybe something has come up that requires more immediate attention than what we planned in our goals) and I may follow up with any homework that was given and explore how you have been able to implement tools outside of therapy. We will also start working on goals with purpose and intention. In between sessions I am available through email and phone, if you need a quick check in. It may take up to two days for me to respond.  Please see my privacy policy, below, with regards to email communication.
